I have never been a big fan of veggies, I just don’t like the taste or consistency.
Fruits I can handle, but I’m not a big fan of those neither.
After doing some research I started learning about the importance of vitamins and other micro nutrients, so I decided I had to start getting those greens into my diet.
The problem was that I really didn’t want to eat them, I’m kind of a child when it comes to this..
Anyways, I started looking for other ways to get my fruits and veggies in, that’s when I came across green smoothies.
For the last 4-5 months I have been drinking at least 800-1000 ml of green smoothie every day and I have never felt better, mentally or physically.
When I make my smoothies I always use greens with very high nutrition value, like spinach and kale.
Then I throw in some fruits and berries for taste, like bananas and strawberries.
In stead of water I use juice, it makes the taste so much more fresh and enjoyable.
I know that a lot of people struggle to actually get enough fruits and veggies in, and if that is the case with you I would recommend trying green smoothies.
Some benefits of green smoothies.
1. Weight loss
Green smoothies are very nutrient dense and contains very few calories, depending on your ingredients. They also contain a lot of fiber, and when you consume a meal with a lot of nutrients and fiber you are going to feel fuller for longer.
This will help you eat less calories in total trough out the day.
2. More energy
Since green smoothies are kind of a ”liquid”, your body is able to suck up all those nutrients easily and get a great nutrition boost. Smoothies are very easily digested so you won’t get tired because of your digestive system working like you would when you consume a big meal of whole foods.
3. Mental clarity
A lot of people underestimate the importance of micros for brain function.
Your brain needs vitamins and minerals in order to function properly, and if you are not getting enough micro nutrients in you may suffer from depression, stress, low energy levels and find it difficult to focus.
4. Better immune system
No one likes to be sick, and every time you get a cold you have to take time to rest in order for your body to heal.
If you have a strong immune system you are less likely to get that cold in the first place.
Getting in all your vitamins will help your body deal with different types of bacteria and therefore help you stay healthy.
5. Helps when you crave sugar
Sometimes you just really want something sweet, like chocolate or other sugary candies.
When you feel these cravings a smoothie will help you to stay away from those candy bars.
Since fruits and berries contain natural sugar they will help satisfy your sugar cravings, and since veggies and fruits also contain a lot of fiber your body will handle this sugar much better.
6. Better skin
When your body gets a sufficient amount of micro nutrients it is getting everything it needs to stay healthy, and with good health comes good skin.
Another thing is that drinking smoothies will help you stay hydrated, witch also is good for your skin.
Now these are only a few of many benefits you can get for green smoothies, and if you are struggling to get your veggies in, this is totally the way to go.
How to make a green smoothie.
So to end this post I want to share a recipe so that you can try it out today.
I always start of with about 150-200grams of spinach or kale, or both.
Then I throw in a banana and some different types of berries for the taste.
You also want some liquid in there, and you can use water, but I think it tastes better with juice.
Just make sure you buy natural juice with no added sugar and make sure it’s been processed as little as possible, you might even want to juice your own fruits for this.
So to sum up:
150 grams of spinach/kale/broccoli
250 grams of fruits and berries of your own choice
5dl of water/juice
